“Critical Acclaim”

“Your universe is mastered, as are your compositions... your aesthetic is strong and your paintings reflect certain periods of art history while remaining entirely contemporary.”
– Quentin Métayer, Art Consultant (ex-Galerie Perrotin)

"VIGILANTE centres on a foul-mouthed anti-hero... a character reminiscent of Mr Hyde by Edinburgh’s Robert Louis Stevenson — created by a local artist with a distinctive voice."

Artist’s Bio:

Originally from Athens, Greece, Constantine.. moved to the UK to study Geology but soon realized that there is not enough time in life to try and live according to other people’s expectations, and pursuit his art career. A self-taught, and wildly prolific, multidisciplinary artist, author, and performer, he has developed a bold, immediately recognizable painting style, often centered on autobiographical narratives, folklore, Greek gods and heroes, and imaginative, character-driven scenes. His vibrant, large-scale works explore the collision of the divine and the human, blending humor, irreverence, and visual storytelling.

Constantine..’s practice extends beyond the studio. In 2025, he was selected as Artist in Residence at Virgin Hotels Edinburgh, where he expanded his acclaimed Vigilante series. Working from the Unicorn Room, he transformed the hotel into a public-facing creative space, offering guests an immersive view into his process. Alongside this, he has staged interventions across Edinburgh and Glasgow, including costumed performances, placard installations, and site-specific cutouts, bringing his mythic and anti-hero narratives into urban public spaces. These ephemeral works blur the boundaries between painting, performance, and public spectacle, creating a dialogue with both the city and its viewers.

His work has been exhibited internationally—in the UK, Greece, and Romania—and auctioned by figures such as BBC presenter and Lyon & Turnbull auctioneer Natasha Raskin Sharp. Art consultant Quentin Métayer (formerly of Galerie Perrotin) described his style as “a colorful universe that makes us smile,” noting the art historical resonance of his compositions and encouraging large-scale experimentation.

Beyond his personal practice, Constantine.. serves as Honorary Secretary of the Scottish art charity Healy Arts, supporting creative communities and emerging talent. Today, his work encompasses painting, drawing, printmaking, writing, performance, animation, and sculpture, consistently exploring the interplay of myth, narrative, and public engagement

Artist Statement – Constantine..

Born in Athens and now based in Edinburgh, Constantine.. creates a contemporary mythology that spans painting, illustration, animation, performance, and intervention. At the centre of his practice lies painting: bold, vibrant self-portraits and figures drawn from ancient gods, superheroes, and archetypes. His characters — Zeus in blue jeans, the foul-mouthed Vigilante, or the artist himself in endless guises — reflect our fragile masks, our obsessions with morality, and the performances we give to be seen as “good.”

While painting provides the foundation, Constantine..’s work refuses to remain on the canvas. His imagery expands into illustrated books, short films, and stop-motion animations, as well as live performances and unsanctioned interventions in public space. From placing hand-embellished cut-outs on the walls of major galleries, to staging performances with costumed Vigilantes, to projecting films onto Edinburgh landmarks, his actions blur art and life, folding everyday spaces into the ongoing narrative of his mythic world.

The result is a practice that functions as both autobiography and collective story. Constantine.. builds a pantheon of modern gods and anti-heroes that live among us: smoking, swearing, juggling, or scrawled onto city walls. His art reimagines the divine in human terms, and the human in divine terms — an ever-evolving mythology that insists on being seen not only in galleries but also in the streets, the monuments, and the very fabric of the city.

Experience

I have had the privilege of collaborating with diverse artists from various creative disciplines, including visual artists, musicians, videographers/directors, writers, poets, and models. My artistic expertise knows no boundaries, as I've been fortunate to work with prominent brands in the Alcohol and Hospitality industry, leaving my artistic imprint on numerous public spaces and residential buildings throughout Edinburgh with striking public art installations.

Over the course of my career, I've undertaken a wide range of commissions, spanning poster design, tattoo artistry, music vinyl covers and labels, as well as numerous private commissions and book illustrations. Some of my notable clients include Gin No 3, Fruitmarket Gallery Bookshop (Edinburgh), Typewronger Bookshop (Edinburgh), and The Book Art Bookshop (London).

I've had the honour of presenting numerous solo projects on a global scale and participating in various group shows and auctions. In addition to my artistic endeavours, I've ventured into writing and publishing. I am the author and publisher of several art books, including "Jazz Mafia Project," "Jazz Mafia Project Vol 2," "Into the Dark and the Light of the Trojan Moon," "Myth and or Mythology.. EXT Version," and the workshop/manual book "Printmaking Made Simple by Constantine..," among many others.

My latest and exciting endeavour is Triptych Magazine, a project I co-founded with Emily-Rose James, which reflects our commitment to fostering artistic dialogue and exploration of the arts and well-being in our city and beyond, as well as the co-founded the project “Poets of the Night”, as radically successful night of well-selected Poets and Theatre Performers that runs on a regular basis in Edinburgh.

One of my latest achievements is to become a Board Member of the Healy Arts Charity.
